Installing the Ridge Pole
On Monday, I finished the second half of the loft flooring. I was up at the cabin for about 6 hours working on the loft. Not much to say about it, other than it was very hot and slow going.
Today was the big day for placing the ridge pole in place. After work, my two brothers and our friend David (who happened to be in town from Florida) headed up to the cabin with the single goal of installing the ridge pole. In preparation for today, Christy and I assembled two pieces the day before, so all we had to do was lift the two sections into place and then screw them together. We also erected the two support beams in the middle of the loft floor to help support the ridge pole. We used 2x4s to support the poles and hold them into place until we got the ridge pole up.
The ridge pole was very heavy, but with the four of us lifting it, it wasn't too awkward. It was much easier than I had anticipated. Thank you to Ryan, Joe and David for your help tonight.
