Layin' & Screwin'
Laying down more logs rows and screwing them in! What did you think I meant?!
We spent this week transporting more logs up to the site and preparing to set them into place. But, first things first! Bob and BJ took 5 minutes and built some stairs so we could get into the house easily. I've never been so happy about something so simple! No more bending my knees up to my earlobes to get inside!
The process for each log row is the same...apply a strip of foam weather tape on the top "tongue" of the log, place a line of Puttylastic caulk on the outside ridge, put expanding foam in the corner voids, and then screw them all in with Log Hog screws. This can sometimes be challenging since not all of the logs are straight and are warped, so we have to put some muscle into bending them into place.
After row two, we needed to decide where to put electrical outlets. Most of them will be on inside walls and run under the house, but there were two that needed to be installed in the living room area. Bob measured the log on row three where the cuts needed to be made and used a circular saw to make several cuts and then a hammer and screwdriver to chisel out the excess wood. He then used a drill with a long extension to drill a hole down through two rows of logs, the flooring and 2x8 boards. This was not a fun experience and he was glad there were only two to get done! I think they came out great though!
We had to stop Friday afternoon after row four because of the light rain. The foam weather strip does not stick well to wet logs! Bob went up today on his own to complete more rows. On Sunday we'll have to pick up more logs at the car lot to keep things moving!
