The First Footing

Bob and BJ have been busy measuring and lining everything up to start pouring the footings. The first one they dug with the tractor auger immediately filled up with water. This muddy water is the bain of our existence! All of the rain lately hasn't helped much either. The process is basically digging as far as we can, drilling holes for rebar, filling the middle of the tube as well as all around it with concrete and leveling it. For those of you wondering, we have a generator and purchased a cement mixer to make life easier! We have had catch water system so that we have water available to us. Last summer, the guys also filled up several large drums from Newfound Lake to use as well.

One of the main problems that we've come across is that quite a bit of our site is granite ledge. Ahhh, the granite state! We had a pretty crappy drill for a week that you had to put your whole body weight into just to get it to drill down. But, Bob recently bought a hammer drill that he said makes his life worth living now. The second hole we drilled, also filled right up with water and then it rained for a few days so we had to wait a bit before we got back up to finish it.

While they have been working on footings, I've been busy trying to cut back trees on the driveway to let more sun in. Trying to dry up all that mud as quick as we can!
