Exploring the Land

For years, Bob has wanted a cabin in the woods. Somewhere to go hunting and have a little get away from everyday life. Where we will eventually have grandchildren running around and a place to gather family and friends.

Around September of 2015 we decided it was time. We traveled all over northern New Hampshire in hopes of finding the perfect amount of land for a good price. Everything inexpensive was at least 2 hours away and after much thought, we realized we would never be able to put the time we wanted to into building that far away. We weren't in any rush, but we certainly didn't want it to take years to finish!

For weeks, we kept an eye on the real estate listings and one day came across a Craigslist posting for this little gem right here. We called the owner, who happened to be a lovely lady that got to keep this property in her divorce years ago. She gave us the directions in Bristol, NH (35 minutes from our home) and told us to go explore. We did! We walked all 28 acres of it, several times over the next few days. We knew this was it! We found exactly what we were looking for. We signed the papers November 4th, 2015 and started thinking about cabin plans over the winter.

A little about the property The driveway starts about a quarter mile up a class 6 road which is mainly traveled by snowmobiles during the winter. Below is the entrance to our property. The previous owner said it used to be a sheep farm in the early 1900's and was logged in the mid-80's. It's rectangular in shape and is almost completely bounded by a stone wall. The logging road only went in several hundred feet when we first bought it. The picture above, is of the steep hill that heads straight to our cabin site.
